Check out these East Valley date ideas! Finding an affordable date-night deal around Phoenix’s East Valley sounds easy, until you realize that many of the advertised happy hours end at 5 p.m.
That might work for people with flexible schedules, but it isn’t especially helpful when you and your partner work traditional Monday-through-Friday jobs. By the time you clock out, drive home, change clothes and meet up, the “deal” is already over.
This guide is different.
The weekday specials featured here are available at 6 p.m. or later, making them much more realistic for working couples. I’ve also included weekend-only discounts, late-night happy hours and romantic experiences worth driving beyond the East Valley when you actually have more time.
Some of these are places I’ve personally visited, and I’ve included my honest thoughts about the food, atmosphere and overall experience. Others are deals I researched and added to my own date-night list.

Main Event Monday Night Madness
Main Event’s Monday Night Madness is one of the strongest activity deals for beginning the week.
Starting at 4 p.m. on Mondays, guests can choose either all-you-can-play activities or arcade games for $12.99 per person.
Available activities vary by location and may include bowling, laser tag, billiards or other attractions. Bowling shoes, taxes, virtual reality and certain premium or prize-based games are not included.
East Valley Main Event locations include Gilbert and Tempe.

Why it works for working couples: The promotion continues into the evening, so you don’t have to leave work early to use it.
Half-Price Topgolf
Topgolf Gilbert currently offers 50% off gameplay Monday through Thursday when you make your reservation through Topgolf’s website or app.
Pricing is per bay rather than per person, and each bay can accommodate up to six players. That makes this a good couple’s date or an affordable double date when the cost is divided between two couples.
A $6 account activation fee may apply to new players, and walk-in pricing may be higher than the online rate.
Topgolf Gilbert is located at 1689 S. Santan Village Parkway.

My Take on Topgolf
Topgolf works well when you want an activity date but still want to be able to sit, eat and talk between turns.
I also genuinely liked the nachos. Instead of piling all the toppings in the middle and leaving you with a bunch of plain chips, they made sure each chip had toppings on it. It’s a small detail, but it made them noticeably better than the typical activity-venue nachos.
If you don’t want a full meal, sharing the nachos while you play could be enough for a casual date. This is one of my favorite affordable East Valley date night ideas.
Good to know: This is currently better than the older Tuesday-only Topgolf promotion. Because promotional pricing can change, confirm that it is still available before visiting.
Postino Board + Bottle
Postino’s Board + Bottle special is one of my favorite East Valley date-night values.
After 8 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays, you can get a board of bruschetta and a bottle of wine for $25.
It feels more like a complete dinner-and-wine date than a basic happy hour, and the later starting time makes it genuinely accessible after work.

My Take on Postino
Board + Bottle is one of the easiest ways to make a casual weekday date feel a little more elevated without spending a lot.
Postino’s bruschetta boards also give you several flavor combinations to share, so it feels more interesting than ordering one standard appetizer.
Postino currently offers $6 glasses of wine and $6 pitchers of beer daily until 5 p.m. That deal is not realistic for most people working a traditional weekday schedule, but it can work on weekends or days off.
If you join Postino’s rewards program, watch for perks such as complimentary bruschetta. Offers can change, but it is worth checking your account before visiting.
Why it works for date night: It’s affordable, shareable and has a more relaxed, romantic atmosphere than many activity-center specials.

Tuesday Date-Night Deals
$5 Movies at FatCats
Every Tuesday, FatCats offers $5 movie tickets all day—including evening showtimes.
East Valley FatCats locations include Gilbert, Mesa and Queen Creek. Availability, premium formats and additional fees may vary by movie and location.
You can have dinner before the movie, eat onsite or combine the movie with another FatCats attraction.
My Take on FatCats Food
I don’t mind FatCats’ food at all for this type of entertainment venue. The pizza and chicken tenders are both actually pretty good for casual bowling-alley or movie-theater food.
I wouldn’t necessarily choose FatCats only for the restaurant, but if you want to keep the date convenient, you can eat there without feeling like you need to make a separate dinner stop.
That can make the $5 movie deal even easier for a weeknight because everything is in one place.

Half-Price AMC Movies
AMC Stubs members currently receive 50% off movie tickets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
AMC’s basic Insider membership is free, although premium formats and online ticketing fees may cost extra.

This could work especially well after an early movie or another inexpensive activity.

Wednesday may be the best overall activity-deal night in the East Valley.
FatCats currently offers 50% off bowling, arcade games and glow golf every Wednesday at its Gilbert, Mesa and Queen Creek locations.
That gives couples several ways to build a date without committing to one activity. You could bowl, play arcade games or turn glow golf into a playful competition.

My Take on FatCats for Date Night
I like FatCats as a later date-night option because you don’t necessarily have to rush there immediately after work.
Bowling also gives you something to do without preventing you from talking. If you get hungry, the pizza and chicken tenders are convenient and better than I would expect from this type of venue.
Wednesday’s half-price activities make it especially easy to combine bowling and arcade games without paying full price for both.
It’s incredibly affordable and you’re doing an activity which can lead to some really cute and fun moments with your partner. This is clearly one of my favorite East Valley date ideas!

AMC’s 50%-off Stubs promotion also applies to Wednesday showtimes at participating theaters.
This gives working couples two discounted movie nights to choose from instead of having to fit everything into Tuesday.

Throwback Thursday at Level 1 Arcade Bar
Level 1 Arcade Bar in Downtown Mesa offers rotating daily specials.
Its current Throwback Thursday promotion features an $8.50 signature cocktail served in a color-changing souvenir cup.
Level 1 also offers weekday happy hour from 3–7 p.m., giving people who can arrive shortly after work a little more time than the typical happy hour that ends at 5 p.m.
The Downtown Mesa location does not currently have a kitchen, so plan to eat at another Downtown Mesa restaurant before or after playing. Entrance is free, while arcade and pinball games use tokens.

My Take on Level 1 Arcade Bar for Date Night
I had a blast getting competitive here with my Fiance! We played darts for quite a while and then headed over to the vintage games. We stayed here way longer than expected and I’ve been itching to go back. It deserves it’s spot as one of the great East Valley date ideas.

Thirsty Lion offers reverse happy hour Thursday through Saturday from 9 p.m. until close.
Its happy-hour menu includes discounted drinks and shareable dishes, with current food options beginning around $7.95 and draft beer discounted by $2.

Friday and Saturday Late-Night Deals
Traditional happy hours often end before working couples can realistically arrive. Reverse happy hours can be much more useful for Friday and Saturday date nights.
O.H.S.O. Reverse Happy Hour
O.H.S.O. Brewery + Distillery offers reverse happy hour Friday and Saturday from 10 p.m. to midnight at participating locations, including Gilbert.
Current promotions include discounted food and drinks, including $3 Lager Time pints.

O.H.S.O. Gilbert also offers a dog-friendly patio, games and a casual atmosphere, making it an easy choice when you want a laid-back date instead of a formal dinner. The old arcade games are FREE to play! This is one of the well rounded East Valley date ideas on this list.
Hidden House Reverse Happy Hour
The Hidden House in Downtown Chandler offers reverse happy hour Friday and Saturday from 10–11 p.m.
Its historic setting and elevated menu give this option a more romantic atmosphere than a typical sports-bar happy hour.
The Hidden House is located at 159 W. Commonwealth Avenue in Chandler.

Thirsty Lion Reverse Happy Hour
Thirsty Lion’s reverse happy hour runs from 9 p.m. until close Thursday through Saturday at its Chandler, Gilbert and Tempe Marketplace locations.
Lucky Strike After Party
Lucky Strike Mesa currently offers its After Party unlimited-bowling promotion on Friday and Saturday nights:
- Friday beginning at 8 p.m.
- Saturday beginning at 9 p.m.
The current Mesa price is $23.99 per person for unlimited bowling. Shoe rental is not included, and lanes are available on a walk-in basis.

An Affordable Romantic Date at Cooper’s Hawk
Not every deal has to be attached to a specific day.
Cooper’s Hawk in Chandler offers wine tastings that have historically been around $8. Current tasting prices and selections may vary, so confirm the cost before visiting.
A wine tasting alone can be an inexpensive mini date, or you can stay for dinner if you want a more complete evening.
My Take on Cooper’s Hawk
The tasting makes Cooper’s Hawk feel accessible even if you aren’t looking to spend money on a full upscale dinner.
If you do stay for dinner, the short-rib risotto is delicious but very rich. It may be better if you love heavier dishes or plan to share. The gnocchi alla vodka is another good option.
I also think the chocolate truffles are worth adding. They make a nice ending to the date without ordering a large dessert.
Weekend-Only East Valley Date Ideas and Deals
Weekends give working couples more freedom to use daytime discounts without rushing from the office.
Weekend Unlimited Bowling
Lucky Strike and Bowlero currently offer unlimited bowling packages Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m.–3 p.m., including shoes.
Current advertised prices include:

Weekends also make earlier happy hours more useful because you don’t have to rush there after work.
Options include:
- Thirsty Lion happy hour daily from 3–6 p.m.
- The Keg happy hour daily from opening until 6 p.m. in its bar, lounge and patio
- Postino’s $6 glasses of wine and $6 pitchers of beer until 5 p.m.
- O.H.S.O. happy hour from 3–6 p.m.
- SanTan Brewing happy hour from 2–5 p.m. Monday through Friday if you happen to have a Friday off
These offers aren’t especially practical after a weekday commute, but they can work beautifully on a weekend afternoon or an occasional day off.
Romantic Weekend Dates Worth the Drive
Not every memorable date has to be the cheapest possible option.
These experiences require a little more driving or time, making them better for weekends.
OdySea Aquarium Twilight Tickets
OdySea Aquarium offers Twilight Tickets with savings of up to 30% when you visit after 4:30 p.m.
The dim aquarium lighting, sharks, sea turtles and other exhibits create a surprisingly romantic atmosphere.
OdySea currently closes at 7 p.m., so this works better as a weekend afternoon date than a rushed weekday outing.
The aquarium is located at Arizona Boardwalk in Scottsdale. You can stay for dinner nearby after exploring the exhibits.

Fish & Sips at OdySea Aquarium
For an adults-only aquarium date, watch for OdySea’s recurring Fish & Sips events.
These 21+ evenings typically run from 5–9 p.m. and include:
- Live music
- Animal talks
- Games
- An adults-only aquarium atmosphere
- Food, beer, wine and cocktails available for purchase
Upcoming 2026 dates currently include August 28 and September 25.
Advance admission has been advertised around $34.95, but verify current pricing before purchasing tickets.

Romantic date pick: This is one of the best options in this guide for couples who want something more memorable than dinner and a movie.
Why it made my list: An adults-only evening inside the aquarium feels much more memorable than another standard dinner-and-movie date.
Desert Botanical Garden After Dark
During its current summer season, Desert Botanical Garden stays open until 10 p.m. and features 12 illuminated installations throughout its trails.
Different evenings offer different musical atmospheres:
- Friday: Latin music
- Saturday: current hits
- Sunday: a quieter, soundless experience
- Tuesday: classical music
- Thursday: ’90s and 2000s throwbacks
Online summer admission is currently less expensive than purchasing tickets onsite.
Through September 7, 2026, online adult admission is approximately $18.95, compared with $21.95 in person. Prices and programming change seasonally.

Best choice for couples: Sunday’s quieter evening or Tuesday’s classical-music night may feel more romantic than the livelier Saturday programming.
Flashlight Nights at Desert Botanical Garden
On select summer Saturdays, Desert Botanical Garden hosts Flashlight Nights from approximately 7–9:30 p.m.
The experience is promoted for both date nights and family outings and gives visitors a playful way to explore the desert after dark.
Check whether your chosen date is included with general admission or requires a separate ticket.
SMoCA Pay-What-You-Wish Saturday
The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art offers pay-what-you-wish admission every second Saturday.
Couples can explore the museum, walk around Old Town Scottsdale and then have dinner or drinks nearby.
It feels like an elevated cultural date without the usual museum admission price.

Japanese Friendship Garden
The Japanese Friendship Garden of Phoenix is not a special weekend discount, but it is a relatively affordable romantic experience at approximately $14 per adult.
During June through August, the garden reopens from 4–7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. From September through January, it is generally open until 6 p.m.
The garden’s ponds, stone pathways and peaceful landscaping make it an excellent slow-paced weekend date.
Pair it with dinner, coffee or another activity in Downtown Phoenix.

Taliesin West Golden Hour Sunset Hike
For a splurge-worthy weekend date, Taliesin West offers a 90-minute Golden Hour Sunset Hike on select Saturday and Sunday evenings from October 3 through December 27, 2026.
The current adult price is $65.
This is not a discount date, but the combination of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture, desert scenery and sunset views makes it worthy of the drive to Scottsdale.
Advance reservations are strongly recommended.
Dolly Steamboat Twilight Dinner Cruise
Dolly Steamboat’s Twilight Dinner Cruise on Canyon Lake is one of the most romantic Arizona date ideas within driving distance of the East Valley.
Current experiences include:
- Scenic nature cruise from $35 per adult
- Twilight dinner cruise from $88 per adult
- Astronomy dinner cruise from $96 per adult
However, Canyon Lake is scheduled to close for dam inspections and maintenance beginning in September 2026.
Dolly Steamboat plans to suspend operations after August 30 and resume around January 2027.
Save this idea for a future date, but verify that cruises have resumed before making plans.

Turn a Deal Into a Complete Date
One discounted activity can become a full date when you combine it with another nearby stop.
Downtown Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa or Tempe Date
Start with a tasting or dinner at Cooper’s Hawk, walk around Downtown and finish the evening at a cocktail bar or speakeasy.
The White Rabbit is one option if you want something more atmospheric.
My Take on The White Rabbit
I’ve visited The White Rabbit as a couple and with a larger group of friends.
When we went with friends for my birthday a few years ago, we had a great time. Larger groups may have to wait to get inside, but our wait was only around 20 minutes on a Saturday evening.
We arrived around 8 p.m., so it wasn’t especially late. The wait may be different depending on the night, group size and current crowd.
The White Rabbit does not serve a full food menu, so eat before visiting.
Downtown Mesa Date
Visit the free galleries at Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum, walk around Main Street, have dinner and finish with arcade games at Level 1.
Gilbert Activity Date
Reserve a discounted Topgolf bay, share the nachos and then walk around SanTan Village or stop somewhere nearby for dessert.
FatCats Date
Use the Tuesday movie deal or Wednesday half-price activity promotion, then keep dinner simple with pizza or chicken tenders onsite.
Free and Low-Cost Cultural Dates
Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum
The contemporary-art galleries at Mesa Arts Center are always free to explore.
Combine the museum with a walk around Downtown Mesa, public art, dinner or arcade games at Level 1 for an inexpensive but complete date.
Phoenix Art Museum First Friday
Phoenix Art Museum traditionally offers free admission from 5–8 p.m. on the first Friday of the month.
Because programs and participating dates can change, confirm the current First Friday schedule before visiting.
Downtown Mesa Art Walk
Walking through Downtown Mesa to see murals, sculptures and public art costs nothing.
Add coffee, dessert, dinner, drinks or a few dollars in arcade tokens to turn it into a complete date.
Seasonal Deals to Verify Before Visiting
Some of the best activity promotions are seasonal instead of permanent.
Lucky Strike Mesa currently advertises unlimited Sunday-through-Thursday evening bowling with shoes included:
- Sunday beginning at 6 p.m.
- Monday through Thursday beginning at 7 p.m.
- Current Mesa price: $17.99 per person
Because this is branded as an Endless Summer Nights promotion, verify that it is still available before making plans.
Electric Pickle in Tempe has also offered free pickleball before 4 p.m. during the summer. This is much better suited to a weekend because the weekday cutoff is too early for most working couples.
What About Happy Hours That End Before 6 p.m.?
The East Valley has plenty of legitimate happy hours that end at 5 or 6 p.m.
They may be useful on weekends, holidays, vacation days or days with flexible schedules, but they aren’t the focus of this guide.
After all, a date-night deal isn’t particularly helpful if using it requires leaving work early.
The weekday offers featured in the main sections of this guide remain available at 6 p.m. or later. Earlier happy hours are included only when they make sense as weekend dates.
