8 Best Patio Restaurants in Gilbert for Date Night, Family Dinner & More
Patio season is something special in Arizona. Once the temperatures finally begin to drop, an ordinary dinner outside can feel like its own little event. I knew I had to nail down the best patio restaurants in Gilbert with specific criteria.
Of course, saying a restaurant “has a patio” only tells us so much. In Arizona, we also need to know whether that patio has shade, ceiling fans, misters or heaters. Those details can make the difference between enjoying a leisurely dinner outside and immediately asking to move indoors.
The best patio also depends on what kind of evening you’re planning. Sometimes you want rooftop cocktails or an upscale seafood dinner. Other nights call for a bottle of wine, somewhere to bring the dog or a casual outdoor meal with the kids.
These eight Gilbert patios offer a mix of romantic, upscale, playful, dog-friendly and family-friendly experiences.

What makes an Arizona patio comfortable?
The most attractive patio in town will not be enjoyable if you are sitting in direct sunlight without any airflow.
When choosing an Arizona patio, consider:
- Whether the patio is covered or shaded
- Availability of misters and outdoor fans
- Heaters or fireplaces during colder months
- The direction of the afternoon sun
- Noise from live music, televisions and surrounding traffic
- Whether dogs or children are welcome
- How far the patio is from the restaurant’s indoor areas
- Whether outdoor seating can be specifically reserved
Restaurants may operate their misters, fans and heaters seasonally. If these amenities are important to you, call before your reservation and ask what will be running that evening.
1. Buck & Rider

Best for: An upscale seafood date or special occasion
Buck & Rider is one of the strongest options when you want patio dinner to feel polished and elevated.
Located at Epicenter at Agritopia, the Gilbert restaurant serves seafood flown in fresh daily, along with sushi, a raw bar, steaks and handcrafted cocktails. The patio works for a celebratory dinner, anniversary, brunch or an upscale happy-hour date without feeling excessively formal.
At the time of publication, Buck & Rider offers a daily happy hour featuring specially priced cocktails, oysters and small bites. That can be an approachable way to experience the restaurant if you want the atmosphere without committing to a full dinner.
Why choose it: Fresh seafood, polished service and an elevated atmosphere.
Patio comfort: The patio is full of yellow umbrellas. When it’s really hot out, they have massive cooling fans running. When it’s cool, in some spots they have ceiling heaters, and others they have stylish floor heaters. If you’re lucky, you can snag a seat near their massive wood burning fireplace.
Noise level: Medium
Best time to visit: Sunset, happy hour or an evening special occasion.
View the current menu, happy-hour details and priority seating information on the Buck & Rider website.
Jackie’s note: To me, Buck & Rider is a "special occasions" kind of place due to price point, but to others it may be a normal nice weekend option.
2. Sotol Modern Cocktail Kitchen

Best for: Rooftop cocktails and sunset views
If the view is part of the date, Sotol Modern Cocktail Kitchen is still one of the most intriguing options in Downtown Gilbert. Sotol describes itself as Gilbert’s first rooftop restaurant and cocktail bar, with an Arizona-inspired menu and views from its elevated location. There is also an elevator available to reach the rooftop.
Our experience showed us that timing matters here. We visited around 11 p.m. on a Friday night in mid-September, and the restaurant wasn’t very busy. I liked my cocktail, but there was still quite a bit left to be desired during our late-night visit.
The rooftop misters were turned off when we arrived. After we asked, the staff turned them on, and they made the patio noticeably more comfortable without creating that wet, drippy feeling some misters do. Unfortunately, they were turned off again within about an hour. Without them, it felt too hot to comfortably enjoy the rooftop, even that late at night.
Service at the bar was also a little uneven. A bartender took my order, but I stood waiting for what felt like quite a while afterward. Eventually, a second bartender noticed me, asked if I had been helped, checked the screen to confirm my order and promptly brought our drinks. She also apologized for the wait, which I appreciated.

Although this visit didn’t quite live up to what I had pictured, I wouldn’t write Sotol off. I’d still like to return when the temperatures drop, arrive before sunset and try some of the food. The rooftop setting has a lot of potential, and I suspect the experience would feel completely different during cooler weather with time to enjoy the view.
Sotol is an 18-and-older establishment, giving it a more adult-oriented date-night atmosphere than several of the casual patios on this list.
Why choose it: Rooftop views, creative cocktails and the potential for a beautiful Downtown Gilbert sunset.
Patio comfort: The high-quality misters cooled the patio without leaving us wet, but they weren’t kept on throughout our visit. In warmer weather, patio comfort may depend heavily on whether the misters are running.
Noise level: Fairly calm during our late Friday-night visit, although the restaurant was not very busy at the time.
Best time to visit: Just before sunset during cooler weather.
Check current hours, happy hour and reservations on the Sotol website. The view is really what lands Sotol as one of the best patio restaurants in Gilbert.
Jackie’s note: Sotol is a place I’d try again, but I’d plan the visit differently next time. I’d arrive before sunset, go during cooler weather and make the rooftop view part of the experience.
3. Maeva

Best for: Beautiful surroundings, creative cocktails and elevated small bites
Maeva makes an impression before you even sit down. You’re greeted by the smell of espresso, and the attention to detail carries through everything from the decor and finishes to the silverware and bathrooms. It feels thoughtfully designed without being overly formal.
We visited at 7:30 p.m. on a Friday with a reservation. One helpful thing to know is that the host stand is near the south entrance. We entered from the north side and were directed through the restaurant to check in at the opposite entrance. Luckily, Maeva is fairly small, so it was only a short walk. We were seated promptly and offered three water options: house water, bottled sparkling or bottled still.
The indoor dining room appeared to be about 60–70% full, and the small bar, which seats approximately six to eight people, was full. The patio looked like it may offer even more seating than the interior, but it was empty during our mid-September visit. A staff member told us patio traffic typically picks up around mid-October, particularly in the mornings when Maeva draws a breakfast crowd.

Maeva has a smaller, rotating menu. I appreciated not feeling overwhelmed by too many choices, but there is a drawback: the restaurant was already out of two of its dinner options when we visited. With a small menu, that can significantly narrow your choices, so I wouldn’t get your heart set on a particular dish before arriving.
We decided to enjoy a cocktail and a couple of small bites at Maeva before moving to another restaurant for dinner. We actually love splitting date night between a few different places because it makes the evening feel more like an experience. We might have drinks and an appetizer at one restaurant, dinner somewhere else and occasionally add one more stop afterward. You can find more ideas like this in my 75+ East Valley Date Ideas.

We really enjoyed the Radicchio Caesar. It comes topped with long slivers of anchovy, which we cut into smaller pieces and mixed throughout the salad. The result was delicious, and I would return for that dish alone.
We also tried the Smoked Salmon Rice Crisp, made with salmon and chive cream cheese on a crisp rice cracker. It had already rotated off the menu only a few days after our visit, which shows how quickly the offerings can change. I loved the flavors and would order it again if it returned, although I would have preferred about twice as much rice crisp to balance the amount of cream cheese and give each bite a better cream-to-crunch ratio.
My cocktail, the Goldfinger, was another standout. Between the Goldfinger, the Radicchio Caesar and the Smoked Salmon Rice Crisp, there are several things I would happily return for, even if we once again treated Maeva as the first stop of our evening rather than our full dinner destination.
Why choose it: Beautiful design, an intimate atmosphere, a curated rotating menu and memorable cocktails and small bites. The ambience alone may have landed it as one of the best patio restaurants in Gilbert!
Patio comfort: The patio was empty during our mid-September evening visit so the misters were not on, but I saw high quality misters, half of the patio is covered with solid shade and the other half utilizes umbrellas. However, due to the orientation of the building, I believe it would likely be fully shaded from the building itself after about 4 pm. Staff told us it becomes more popular beginning around mid-October, especially at breakfast.
Noise level: The restaurant was active on a Friday night, but its smaller size still gave it a more intimate feel.
Best time to visit: During cooler weather for breakfast on the patio, or in the evening for cocktails and small bites.
Jackie’s note: Maeva’s rotating menu is part of its appeal, but it also means dishes can disappear quickly and some selections may sell out. Go with an open mind rather than choosing one specific entrée in advance. I would personally return for the Goldfinger or the Radicchio Caesar alone.
4. The Keg Steakhouse + Bar
Best for: A classic steak-and-wine date
The Keg is a reliable choice when you want a traditional steakhouse dinner in a comfortable outdoor setting.
Located at SanTan Village, the Gilbert patio includes a large outdoor fireplace and views of the Arizona sunset. The menu centers on steaks, prime rib, seafood and familiar steakhouse sides.
The outdoor fireplace gives the patio a particularly cozy quality on colder evenings. This makes The Keg a natural choice for anniversaries, birthdays and quiet dinners for two.
It offers a more established, traditional atmosphere than Gilbert’s newer cocktail-driven restaurants, which can be exactly what you want from a classic date night.
Why choose it: Steaks, wine, sunset views and an outdoor fireplace. Shopping at San Tan Village after dinner. As one of the elevated but more affordable spots outside of Downtown Gilbert, it earned a spot as one of the best patio restaurants in Gilbert.
PatioPatio comfort: The Keg’s patio is fully covered and equipped with plenty of heaters, plus a massive fireplace that makes it especially inviting during Gilbert’s colder months. However, I didn’t see any fans or misters, so this would not be my first patio choice during warmer weather. The setup limits the patio season somewhat, but during fall and winter, it could be one of the coziest options on this list.
Best time to visit: A cool fall or winter evening when you can enjoy the heaters and fireplace.
Noise level: Generally suited to conversation, but depends on how busy it is.
The restaurant offers happy hour in its lounge and patio during designated hours. Check current details and make a reservation through The Keg’s Gilbert location page.
Jackie’s note: The Keg feels a little more polished while still being comfortably casual. Nice jeans, a good shirt and a great pair of shoes fit right in, making it an easy choice when you want date night to feel special without getting completely dressed up.
5. Postino East

Best for: A relaxed and affordable wine date
Postino East is an easy choice when you want something that feels special but still relaxed.
Its large, dog-friendly outdoor patio, wine selection and shareable bruschetta boards make it well suited to lingering over drinks and conversation.
At the time of publication, Postino offers $6 glasses of wine and $6 pitchers of beer daily until 5 p.m. Its Monday and Tuesday Board + Bottle special includes a bottle of wine and a bruschetta board for $25 after 8 p.m.
Those promotions make Postino one of the most affordable date-night options on this list, particularly if you can visit during the week.
Why choose it: Wine, shareable food and excellent weekday value. Walk across the street to Topo for prickly pear soft serve after dinner. Trust me!
Patio comfort: The outdoor patio is large, but confirm when misters and fans operate before booking during warmer weather. There’s also a fireplace and they have heaters for colder months.
Noise level: Social and energetic without being centered on sports or games.
Best time to visit: Happy hour or after 8 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday.
Promotions can change, so verify current pricing and reserve through the Postino East website.
Jackie’s note: We come here time and time again. The bruschetta board and a couple glasses of wine and we're good to go. The best part about the bruschetta board is you get to pick 4 different ones. I love variety! I'm always pleasantly surprised (as if I didn't already know!) at how low the bill is when it's time to leave.
6. The Porch
Best for: A lively and playful date
The Porch is for nights when date night means burgers, cocktails and having fun instead of dressing up for a quiet dinner.
Its Gilbert location has a spacious outdoor patio, sports viewing and yard games. The atmosphere becomes livelier during weekend brunch, major games and late-night hours, making it a good option for social couples or a double date.
The Porch adds an important category to this list because not every memorable date needs candlelight and expensive entrees. Sometimes you want to order drinks, play a game and laugh together.
Why choose it: Casual food, cocktails, games and an energetic atmosphere.
Patio comfort: Plenty of high quality overhead misting fans and solid shade coverage.
Noise level: Lively, especially during games, weekend brunch and late-night hours.
Best time to visit: Weekend brunch, happy hour or a casual double date.
Check the event calendar and current restaurant information through The Porch.
Jackie’s note: This is for when you're feeling rowdy, want to watch a game, or play yard games. This is not an intimate environment.
7. OHSO Brewery + The Park

Best for: A dog-friendly patio and dancing to live music
O.H.S.O. is the place to choose when you want date night to feel playful, social and a little spontaneous. We had so much fun here dancing to live music wherever we felt like, challenging each other at ping pong and playing classic video games in the arcade.
The atmosphere is lively and can feel a little overwhelming when you first walk in because there is so much happening at once. Don’t worry if you aren’t immediately sure where to go. Staff members circulate throughout the space and are happy to help. If you want to sit outside, you can choose your own table and scan a QR code to order from your phone. If you prefer a more traditional dining experience, you can check in with the host for an indoor table and a physical menu.

The crowd was one of my favorite parts of the experience. We saw everyone from people in their early 20s to families with young children and adults in their 60s dancing and enjoying the music. The band played familiar crowd-pleasers, including “love song,” “Before He Cheats” and “All the Small Things.” People were singing along, dancing near their tables and simply having a good time without the evening feeling like it belonged to one particular age group.
The outdoor area also has ping-pong tables and an arcade with classic video games. If your ping-pong ball goes flying across the patio, which ours definitely did, someone nearby will probably be happy to send it back your way. It’s the kind of place where interacting with the people around you feels easy and natural.
O.H.S.O. is especially well suited to dog owners because the patio includes a dedicated dog park. Around 9 p.m. on the Friday night we visited, the dog park was empty, making it a surprisingly peaceful place to step away from the larger crowd for a moment. It appeared clean and had a neutral smell during our visit.

Despite the number of people, the patio itself was very comfortable. There was plenty of shade, comfortable seating and fans throughout the outdoor space. We actually felt cooler at O.H.S.O. around 9 p.m. than we did at Sotol around 11 p.m. the same night.
Why choose it: A dog-friendly patio, live music, casual dancing, ping pong, arcade games and an energetic crowd with a wide mix of ages.
Patio comfort: Plenty of shade and fans throughout the patio kept us comfortable, even during a September evening before Gilbert’s prime patio season.
Noise level: Lively and fairly loud when the live music is playing. This is a better choice for a high-energy date than a quiet, intimate conversation.
Best time to visit: A Friday or weekend evening when live music is scheduled. Check the current entertainment calendar before visiting if dancing is part of your plan.

Jackie’s note: O.H.S.O. was one of the most fun stops on our patio date. We danced wherever we felt like, played ping pong and classic arcade games, and enjoyed seeing such a wide range of people having fun together. Come here when you want an interactive date night where you can do more than sit across from each other at a table.

8. Joe’s Farm Grill

Best for: A family-friendly patio dinner
Not every patio night happens without the kids, and Joe’s Farm Grill is one of Gilbert’s most appealing options for a casual family dinner outside.
Located at Agritopia, the restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating with a relaxed, picnic-style atmosphere. Mature landscaping and large trees help the patio feel connected to the surrounding farm community.
The menu includes burgers, barbecue, salads, sandwiches and other approachable choices for adults and children. The casual counter-service format can also feel easier with kids than committing to a lengthy sit-down meal.
After dinner, families can explore more of the Agritopia area or stop nearby for something sweet.
Why choose it: Casual food, room for children and a setting that turns dinner into a relaxed family outing.
Patio comfort: Shade from the mature trees is a major benefit. They’ve also recently upgraded their patio to a large metal shade structure with the higher quality misting fans! I was very happy to see that last time we went.
Noise level: Family-friendly and casual.
Best time to visit: Early evening, sunset or during Gilbert’s cooler patio months.
Jackie’s note: Try the salmon plate! Also, the Cheesecake is pretty delicious. Don't miss out on wandering around Agritopia after eating. There's much to see here. You can even go to Epicenter across the street and get dessert at Salt & Straw.

When is patio season in Gilbert?
Gilbert’s most comfortable patio weather generally begins in the fall and continues through spring.
October and November are popular for evening dining, although early fall temperatures can still feel warm before sunset. This is when shade, fans and misters become especially important.
December and January can be surprisingly cold after dark, making heaters, fireplaces and an extra layer helpful. Spring brings another stretch of beautiful outdoor weather before temperatures begin climbing again.
During the warmer edges of patio season, consider making a later reservation and ask whether the patio is shaded from the afternoon sun.
